UNiiVERSE

For A Business

Somebody Capable, Two Streets Away, By Four O’clock.

A shift somebody called in sick for. A stall that needs setting up by seven. A stocktake nobody has time for. There are people near you who can do it, and they are already looking.

  • Twenty-Nine Dollars A Month, As Many Shifts As You Like

One month lists every shift you have. Shortlisting, messaging, and calling somebody back next week are all inside it.

  • They Arrive Ready

Tax file number, super fund, bank details and their right to work, all checked and handed to you as one page for payroll.

  • Nothing Passes Through Us

You pay the person you hired, directly, the way you pay everybody else. UNiiVERSE takes no cut of anybody’s wage.

Put A Shift Up

Make your place first, so the work has somebody behind it. It takes a minute, and your own desk is waiting on the other side of it.

Make My Place

Before You Put A Shift Up

  • Forty-Eight Hours A Fortnight, While Term Is On

A student visa allows forty-eight hours of work every two weeks during teaching, and as many as somebody likes over the breaks. It is counted across every job at once, so a shift here sits alongside whatever else they do.

    Where this comes from

  • Three Hours Is Usually The Shortest Shift There Is

Most awards set a minimum engagement, and it is commonly three hours — so somebody called in for one hour is generally paid for three. A few awards allow ninety minutes. It is worth knowing before the shift is written rather than after it is worked.

    Where this comes from

  • A Casual Is Paid A Quarter More

Casual work carries a loading of twenty-five per cent on top of the ordinary rate, because there are no paid holidays and no guaranteed hours behind it. The floor under everything is $26.44 an hour before that loading, and an award for the industry very often sets more.

    Where this comes from

  • Superannuation Is Paid With The Wage Now

Since the first of July it is paid at the same time as the pay rather than every three months, and it has to reach the account within seven business days. One shift earns it the same as a hundred do.

    Where this comes from

  • A First Shift Is The Riskiest One Anybody Works

Somebody arriving today has never seen the room, the machine, the back stairs or the fire door. The duty of care is the same as for anybody who has been there ten years, and the whole of it lands in the first ten minutes. Say who meets them and who they ask.

    Where this comes from

These are the rules as they stand, rather than advice. An award for a particular industry very often asks for more, and it is the award that decides.
